PHP (formerly known as Personal Home Page) is now known as the Hypertext Preprocessor. It is a server-side scripting language used to create static and dynamic websites. PHP may also be used to create web applications. PHP employs elements similar to HTML and client-side languages such as JavaScript.

PHP 7.4 is the most widely used version.

PHP 7

  • PHP 7 was released in 2014 and 2015. The numbering of this version sparked significant controversy among internal developers.
  • While the PHP 6 Unicode experiment was never released, multiple articles and book titles used the PHP 6 moniker, which may have caused confusion if a future release used the same name.
  • PHP 7 was chosen by popular voting.
  • Version 7.3 support ended on December 6, 2021.
